Reimagined Still Lifes

Reimagined Still Lifes is an ongoing series that began in the final stages of my undergraduate studies and has since continued to evolve. It emerged from a desire to challenge conventional perceptions of still life by reconfiguring objects and images through acts of deconstruction, juxtaposition, and reassembly. The resulting compositions disrupt familiar relationships, inviting reflection on the instability of meaning and the shifting role of objects in contemporary visual culture.

My process is grounded in collage as a method of visual inquiry, bringing together elements drawn from diverse sources, contexts, and symbolic registers to construct new compositions with intentional ambiguity. This approach is informed by sustained research into art history and critical theory, particularly the conceptual strategies of Duchamp’s Readymades, the assemblage of Dada, the irrational logic of Surrealism, and the material sensibility of Pop Art. Rather than treating these as stylistic influences, I approach them as frameworks to be examined, reinterpreted, and synthesized into my own visual language. Each work reflects a careful balance between intuitive arrangement and theoretical exploration, while remaining open-ended and subject to personal interpretation.

The works are not intended as naturalistic depictions or symbolic representations, but as provocations questioning the roles, origins, and meanings of objects through altered compositions and unexpected relationships. Reimagined Still Lifes serves as a space of visual research where observation, emotion, and critical thinking coexist. Through this body of work, I aim to explore how still life can function as a mutable form that invites viewers to reconsider memory, perception, and familiarity in the present moment.
